Hyundai will debut a new smartwatch app at CES, and also at the Pepcom Digital Experience on January 5. Called Blue Link, Hyundai has developed this smartwatch app along with Station Digital Media which allows users to remotely locate, ensure status, lock, unlock and start up their cars in a crowded parking lot.
Compatible with Android Wear smartwatches, the app will be offered as a free download and will be attuned to Blue Link equipped Hyundai models. Hyundai is currently demonstrating Blue Link app on Samsung, Motorola, Sony and LG smartwatches while Android Wear users will receive access free of charge via Google Play from the first quarter of 2015.
Hyundai’s Blue Link Smartwatch commands include Remote Engine Start, Remote Engine Stop (only offered while vehicle is in remote engine start mode), Remote Door Lock / Unlock, Remote Flash Lights / Honk Horn, Car Finder and Call Roadside. The functions are easy and all the wearer needs to do is tap on an icon or use voice command to activate these functions. However, the Blue Link smartphone app needs to be mated via Bluetooth to the owner’s smartphone that possesses the Blue Link mobile app.
Hyundai Blue Link smartwatch app works on first and next generation Hyundai models equipped with Blue Link while next generation Blue Link equipped models will include 2015 Genesis, Sonata and Azera while features such as maintenance alerts and Hyundai Assurance Car Care in-vehicle app will be seen on the 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT and Hyundai Veloster in 2015.
