Even as its primary rival, the Maruti S-Cross continues to struggle selling, the Hyundai Creta is marching towards a phenomenal achievement of breaching 1 lakh bookings which is the fastest by a car in India this year and recent times. The attractive compact crossover has managed to garner 92,000 bookings since its launch 5 months ago with around 16,000 of those orders coming from export markets.
Hyundai India’s Chennai plant is the global production base for the Creta. The Korean automaker is currently in the process of maximizing the production rate of the crossover to meet the surging demand but is limited by the facility’s capacity utilization factor which is inching closer to 100%.
As of now, the company has managed to dispatch 12,270 units to export markets and around 35,000 units to the domestic market. Initially, the Hyundai Creta was produced at a rate of 6,500 units per month but due to the huge demand, it had to increased to 7,500 soon. From January, the production rate would be further increased to 10,000 units per month so that the waiting period would be curtailed.
