As was expected, the new Hyundai compact SUV, which was launched last year in China, will not be called ix25 in India. It will be called Hyundai Creta. And not just India, the name Creta will be used in all export markets as well.
To be officially revealed in India later this month, the new Hyundai Creta SUV gets its name from the word ‘Creative’. Based on the ix25 SUV in China, the Creta for India will be manufactured locally at Hyundai’s plant in Chennai. It is from here that the Creta will be exported to other markets. First markets to receive India-made Hyundai Creta will be South East Asian nations, with Thailand being one of them.
Spied multiple times, while on test in India, the Creta SUV will be Hyundai’s rival to the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, and upcoming Maruti Suzuki S Cross. Though Hyundai has not said anything officially about the engine options on offer with Creta, it is expected to get the same 4 engines, which are seen on the new Verna 4S World Sedan.
These will be 1.4l petrol generating 107 PS power and 135 Nm torque, 1.6l petrol generating 123 PS power and 155 Nm torque, 1.4l diesel generating 90 PS power and 22 Nm torque; and 1.6l diesel generating 128 PS power and 260 Nm torque. The 1.4l one’s will get five speed manual transmission, while the 1.6l options will get 6 speed manual transmission. Though this is not definitive, we will get a better idea when we test drive the car later this month.
Just like Verna, Hyundai Creta too will be a global SUV. It will be launched in major markets across the globe. Though Hyundai has not revealed which markets specifically, they did say that the Creta will be an influential model for the Hyundai Motor brand across the globe. Global roll-out of Creta will commence once the car is launched in India (probably in August).
This is how the Creta will be written once badged on the car.Engineered on Hyundai’s modern brand direction – Simple, Creative, and Caring; Hyundai Creta design is based on their Fluidic Sculpture 2.0. It features swept back headlamps with LED DRLs, muscular look, dual tone sporty interiors (like i20 Active), steering mounted controls, four stroke steering wheels, electronic climate control, new alloys, and much more. Expect the Hyundai Creta price to be in the range of Rs 8-12 lakhs.
