Hyundai Motor India has made an impromptu release of rendering sketches of what was known as i20 Cross, now confirmed to be i20 Active. Below is the official Hyundai i20 Active sketch.
Hyundai i20 Active sketch suggests that the model will be touted as an SUV Styled Car, much like the philosophy started by Volkswagen Cross Polo and Toyota Etios Cross in India, recently followed by Fiat Avventura.
Of the three, Hyundai i20 Active will actually compete head-on with Fiat Avventura, as both of them have substantially raised ground clearance (not confirmed with i20 Cross but clearly looks that way), and the South Korean will have a price range that will probably overlap with the Italian’s.
Obviously, Hyundai i20 Active is made of the company’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy that defines Human Engineering, but there are some drastic changes compared to Elite i20 hatchback such as inverted front grille, sizeable circular fog lamps, prominent scuff plate with extended silver chin, new alloy wheels, lower-body protective cladding on sides, new rear bumper with red lights reminiscent of front fog lamps and roof-top rails.
As for engine options, they are expected to be the same 1.2l petrol and 1.4l diesel mated to 5 speed and 6 speed gearbox respectively, which are on offer with Elite i20. Apart from this, we do not expect the model to come with all wheel drive.
