Hyundai i20 makes way for Elite, no more on company website

Launched in March 2012 and coming in with Hyundai’s Fluidic Design Language, the current i20 has served the company well. Even today, in the large hatchback segment, i20 stays at the top of the charts, thanks to its spacious interiors and loads of on board equipment.

However, with the new Elite i20 announced, the company has decided to discontinue the old i20, unlike in the case of i10 and Grand i10, where both old and new i10 co-exist together currently.

New Elite i20 is designed at Hyundai Motor’s Design Centre Europe in Rüsselsheim, Germany. Elite i20 will sit on a longer wheelbase and have an even more spacious cabin with special attention paid to comforts of rear passengers. Hyundai Elite i20 will boast of wide and aggressive styling, larger headlights, trapezoidal grille and sleek tail lamps with LED highlights on boot lid. Other on board features will also include rear AC vent, touchscreen music player, automatic climate control and push start up button.

Hyundai Elite i20 which will surpass the current generation i20 in looks, performance and efficiency will come in at an expected price between INR 4.9 lakhs to INR 7.9 lakhs. It will take on competition from the recently launched 2014 VW Polo, Fiat Punto Evo besides the upcoming Honda Jazz and Maruti Suzuki Swift facelift. Engine options will include 1.2-litre Kappa2 petrol, 1.4-litre petrol and a 1.4-litre CRDi diesel which are already on offer on the current generation i20 but will be boosted for even more in fuel efficiency and mileage where the Elite i20 is concerned, thanks to a more aerodynamic design.

Production of the current generation i20 has been stopped and dealers are currently in the process of clearing out final stocks and offering discounts to make way for the Elite i20.
