Isuzu MU-7 Automatic coming soon to India – Officially teased

Isuzu MU-7 automatic

Isuzu India will update its lone SUV with an automatic transmission in a bid to enhance its appeal.

Isuzu MU-7 automatic variant is all set to be launched soon and the company has released a teaser suggesting that the D-Day is not far away. With the festive season fast approaching, the launch of new variant would go a long way keeping the product in fray.

Isuzu MU-7 is most likely to receive a 5-speed AT in 4×2 configuration.

Currently, the India-spec MU-7 comes with a 3.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine which is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The motor has 163 PS at 3,600 rpm and 360 Nm of torque at 1,800 – 2800 rpm on tap. Only 4×2 configuration is available as of now.

Internationally, Isuzu employs a 5-speed automatic transmission in its SUVs and pickups and we expect the same unit to be introduced in MU-7 as well. Given the premium positioning of the ladder frame SUV, the Japanese automaker should offer the 4×4 option as well to help its case.

The automatic variant is also expected to be assembled at HM’s Thiruvallur plant near Chennai from Thai-sourced CKD kits.

In international markets, Isuzu has replaced the aging MU-7 with a contemporary MU-X which offers better design inside out and more features. The D-Max pickup sold in other markets is also much more modern than the one sold in India.

In order for Isuzu India to make headway in the market, it should introduce its global lineup here as soon as its upcoming Sri City plant in Andhra Pradesh goes on stream in the first half of 2016.

Isuzu MU-7 manual variant is priced at INR 22.3 lakhs (ex-showroom) so expect the automatic variant to retail at around 23.2 lakhs (ex-showroom).
