Bookings for the Jaguar XE luxury sedan have commenced in India ahead of its launch at the Auto Expo 2016 on February 3. Interestingly, Jaguar will not offer a diesel engine in its most affordable sedan.
The Indian-owned company has confirmed that the XE sedan will be available with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine which exists in two states of tune – 200 PS and 240 PS. Both variants are expected to be mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox which drives the rear wheels.
Based on the aluminium intensive iQ platform, the XE is significantly lighter than its competition and hence boasts of strong dynamics and good efficiency while not comprising on structural rigidity.
The India-spec XE sedan is confirmed to come equipped with Torque Vectoring by Braking, All Surface Progress Control (APSC), Surround Camera System, Interior Mood Lighting, multimedia infotainment system with navigation, 380 watts Meridian sound system, softgrain Windsor leather seats, panoramic sliding roof and so on.

The Jaguar XE is likely to be assembled locally at JLR India’s CKD plant in Pune alongside the bigger XF and XJ sedans. With the likes of Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C Class and Volvo S60 as its rivals, the baby Jag is expected to carry a competitive entry level price tag of around INR 38 lakhs (ex-showroom).
