After numerous delays, Jeep India is finally ready to commence its operations next month with a grand debut at the Auto Expo 2016. The FCA-owned American SUV specialist has previewed its products to select customers in Kerala.
On display were the range-topping Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and Wrangler Unlimited. The company’s operations will start with these two models and will later include a C-SUV which will be manufactured at the extended Ranjangaon factory.
The flagship Grand Cherokee would rival the likes of Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, Mercedes GL and BMW X5. The top-end SRT (Street and Racing Technology) performance variant packs a 470 PS/630 Nm 6.4-litre HEMI V8 petrol engine. The diesel variant would be powered by a 3.0-litre V6 motor which is tuned to deliver 243 PS and 569 Nm of torque. Both models employ a 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters which distribute the drive to all the four wheels.
The luxury SUV offers a lengthy equipment list including multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, an array of electronic safety systems, UConnect touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated front seats, heated front and second row seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, memory function for driver seat, radio and mirror settings, Nappa leather door trim, tyre pressure monitoring system, LED headlamps and many more.
The Wrangler Unlimited off-roader is available only with a 3.6-litre V6 Pentastar petrol engine which churns out 280 PS and 359 Nm of torque. The India-spec variant is most likely to come with a 5-speed automatic transmission.
We would be knowing more details about the variant lineups, pricing and strategy at the Auto Expo 2016 on February 3.
