Hyundai Creta based Kia SP SUV spied on test ahead of India launch
Kia Motors is all set to commence retail sales in India in second half of 2019.
Kia Motors, the South-Korean automaker has confirmed entry into markets in India sometime in 2019. The company showcased the Kia SP Concept at the 2018 Auto Expo and is now ready with a production version which it has been seen testing ahead of launch in India.
Similar in some respects to the Kia SP Concept showcased at the Auto Expo, the production version doing the rounds is a LHD version but a RHD version is also being planned for markets such as India.
Seen with a new front grille design different from that seen on the Kia SP Concept, the SUV was under heavy camouflage and hence many exterior details were hidden. Engine specifications have also not yet been revealed.
Kia Motors will be launching this new SUV in India between May and August 2019. The company plant is being set up at Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh at an investment of USD 1 billion. It will have initial capacity of 3 lakh units per annum.
Apart from the Kia SP Concept, the automaker showcased 16 products from its global portfolio at the expo. The car is being tested in South Korea. It is being developed at the company’s South Korea based R&D center.
The SP SUV is being designed for the Indian market and will be the first production to go on sale in India while Kia Motors is also planning a range of hatchbacks to SUVs besides an India exclusive compact electric vehicle.
