The production spec Koenigsegg Regera is one of the umpteen supercars and hypercars that are world premiering at 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The Regera was showcased as a concept at the previous edition of the show and over the course of 12 months, the fantastic team from Angelholm, Sweden, has made over 3,000 changes to what they call as the ‘megacar’.
The plug-in hybrid hypercar also have gone through extensive development, testing and homologation process during this period. One would be hard pressed to spot the differences between the concept and production model as far as exterior styling is concerned. The wide and slow slung stance, signature wraparound front windshield and a gently tapering roofline makes the Regera unmistakably a Koenigsegg.
Access to the interior is via the hydraulically actuated dihedral doors. The doors and mirrors are fitted with proximity sensors to avoid hitting any nearby objects. The interior is not just outright sporty but also offers optimum luxury and technology. The seats are heated and can be electrically adjusted (with memory function). The comprehensive infotainment system incorporates Apple CarPlay with Wi-Fi, Induction charging for phone, and a bird’s eye view camera.
The production spec Regera is significantly lighter than the prototype at 1,590 kg (will all fluids). Power comes from a 5.0-litre V8 twin-turbo petrol engine which is assisted by 3 electric motors. Battery pack is a 4.5 KWh 800 V unit (Regera is the world’s first production car to feature a 800V battery). The resultant power output exceeds 1,500 PS while the torque output is over 2,000 Nm. The earth shattering potential of the hybrid powertrain is transferred to the road via Koenigsegg’s patent-pending Direct Drive system.
The Koenigsegg Regera is out to trounce the Bugatti Chiron which is also on display at the Geneva Motor Show. 0-100 kmph comes in 2.8 seconds, 0-200 kmph comes in 6.6 seconds, 0-300 kmph is demolished in 10.9 seconds and 0-400 kmph can be achieved in incredible 20 seconds! The Regera is as close a road car can get to the time machine!
