Land Rover Discovery Sport emerges as a much improved product compared to its predecessor. It follows latest design philosophy, employs lighter platform, gets several new features and is propelled by more efficient engines.
According to our sources, JLR India has already commenced production of Discover Sport at its CKD assembly facility near Pune. This confirms that the Tata-owned British SUV specialist is on schedule to launch its latest offering by September, in time for festive season.
At the time of its world premiere, Discovery Sport was offered with 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine which is available in two states of tune – 187 PS and 147 PS. JLR has recently added EU6 compliant Ingenium 2.0-litre diesel engine to the lineup.
The modern oil burner brings in significant weight saving and more efficiency and is also available in two states of tune – 180 PS and 150 PS. The 180 PS version gets a 9-speed automatic transmission. It remains to be seen which of these motors will be made available in India.
JLR India slashed the price of Range Rover Evoque by a hefty INR 20 lakhs when it entered local production in India earlier this year. So going by the aggressive pricing strategy, Land Rover Discovery Sport is expected to carry a price tag between INR 35-40 lakhs (ex-showroom).
