Mahindra Alturas SUV video teaser revealed – 10 things to know about Fortuner rival

The most costly SUV ever to be built by Mahindra, Alturas G4 will be launched on November 24. Codenamed Y400, Alturas G4 is one of the most anticipated vehicles in the Indian car market. It will be positioned as a luxury SUV and compete with other SUVs that cost more than Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). This price range includes the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Honda CR-V. Mahindra is yet to reveal all details, but we do have some key info about Alturas G4, which is given below.

No one got the name right: Everyone was expecting that Mahindra will name Y400 as XUV700, as per its standard naming convention. However, Mahindra sprung up a surprise by giving an entirely new name to Y400. Alturas means height or pinnacle, which seems quite apt, as Mahindra will be seeking to create new benchmarks and achieve new milestones with Alturas G4.

Rs 50,000 is the amount you need to pay to book Alturas G4. Bookings can be done online at https://www.alturasg4.com, https://www.m2all.com/Alturas-G4.html or at Mahindra dealerships. For any changes to your booking or cancellation, you can do it by December 5, 2018. Test drive vehicles will be available at all dealerships across India by November 26.

No MT option: Alturas G4 will be available only in 7-speed torque converter transmission that is sourced from Mercedes-Benz. However, manual transmission may be introduced at a later date.

Nexa-type premium experience: Mahindra is likely to create exclusive zones at its dealerships for Alturas G4. This will provide premium experience to customers, which is a must-have when you are buying a high-end SUV. Alturas G4 sales will be managed by specially trained staff who will be able to provide undivided attention to customers.

Best-in-class features: Top-end variants of Alturas G4 will have several best-in-class features such as 9 airbags, ABS+EBD, ESP, sunroof, hill hold assist and traction control, and electric parking brake. Interiors will have a dual-tone dashboard with faux wood inserts, quilted leather upholstery, and 9.2” touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other key features include HID projector headlamps, start/stop button, keyless entry, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Diesel power: Alturas G4 will have a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that delivers 187 bhp of max power and 420 Nm of max torque. Engine is mated to 7-speed torque converter transmission sourced from Mercedes-Benz.

More space than Fortuner: Mahindra Alturas G4 will have more space on the inside, as compared to Toyota Fortuner. Alturas G4 measures 4,850mm (L), 1,960mm (W), 1,800mm (H) and 2,865mm (wheelbase). In comparison, Toyota Fortuner measures 4,795mm (L), 1,855mm (W), 1,835mm (H) and 2,745mm (wheelbase). The longer and wider Alturas G4 ensures more space on the inside.

No petrol variant: There will be no petrol variant initially, but it could be introduced later. Primary rival Toyota Fortuner offers both petrol variant and manual transmission.

5 Colour options: Mahindra is offering 5 colour options for Alturas G4 – Drizzle Silver, Lake Side Brown, Napoli Black, New Pearl White and Regal Blue.

2WD and 4WD: Alturas G4 will be available in 2WD (4×2) and 4WD (4×4) variants.
