Speaking to media on the sidelines of an event in Kolkata, Dr. Pawan Goenka, executive director, M&M, revealed that the company’s electric vehicle division Reva is currently working on a 4-door version of its e2o electric city car. The larger version would be primarily exported to international markets in Europe.
The new model is expected to be ready by July 2016 and the company would be setting up a distribution centre in the UK to boost sales. No further details of Mahindra e2o 4-door variant have been divulged but one can expect the car to be larger than the existing 2-door version.
The new variant would offer enhanced space and practicality which would go a long way in gaining acceptance in the home market. We also suspect the electric motor to deliver more power in order to cater to the added weight.
Dr. Goenka said that the government’s FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of hybrid and Electric Vehicles) subsidy has helped the company boost its EV sales. He revealed that sales of e2o have doubled since the scheme came into existence.

While the Mahindra e2o makes a good case for itself as an household’s 2nd or 3rd car that can do shopping and city commuting duties, the e2o 4-door variant could be considered as a more versatile family electric car.
