Mahindra Jeeto based passenger vehicle spied for the first time
At the time of Mahindra Jeeto's launch, Mahindra had stated that the platform will spawn to more vehicles in the future. The first one being a Jeeto based passenger carrier.
Mahindra Jeeto mini truck platform will also spawn a passenger variant in the future – was confirmed by Pravin Shah, President and Cheif Executive, Mahindra & Mahindra (Automotive). Such a product will go head on with Tata Magic Iris.
At that time, no further details regarding the passenger variant were divulged. But, about two years later, the first spy shots of this Jeeto based van have emerged online. This new variant was spied in Chennai recently. Loaded with weights, the van was being tested on city roads as well as highways.
Unlike the Jeeto CV, which is available in 8 configurations to suit the varied customer requirements in the sub-1 tonne last mile transportation segment, the passenger variant is expected to be offered in a fixed configuration of payload, power output and seating capacity.
Passenger variant of Mahindra Jeeto would open up a new high-volume last mile transportation market for the company. There is also a possibility that Mahindra plonk an electric motor in the future for the passenger Jeeto variant. For now, the vehicle is powered by a 655 cc direct injection diesel engine which is available in 11 hp and 16 hp ratings. Depending on the variant, fuel efficiency ranges between 27.8 – 37.6 kpl. It is not clear which engine variant will be offered with the Jeeto passenger trim.
The passenger variant of the Mahindra Jeeto van will be slotted below the Mahindra Supro in the company line-up. Once launched, it will rival the likes of Tata Iris. Spy shots reveal that the Jeeto passenger trim comes with tarpaulin windows on the sides, even the rear windscreen is made of tarpaulin. The third row passenger windows are made of glass, and are not openable.
