Mahindra launches official Yezdi website – Are Yezdis launching soon?
Manufactured by Ideal Jawa, the brand was in operation during the 1960-1990 period.
Yezdi bikes, the once most sought after two wheelers in India were special among the generation from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. It was noted for its on-road capabilities and off-road performance and though it was a fuel guzzler, it still grabbed the attention of every biking aficionado in the country.
Powered by a 2 stroke engine with twin exhausts, the Yezdi bike made by Jawa carried a tag ‘Forever bike, Forever value’. True to its tagline, the bike ruled the streets during its hay days and was produced from the Ideal Jawa plant in Mysore.
Last year, Mahindra announced that they have purchased the Jawa. This also means that they are now the owners of the Yezdi brand. At the time of announcement, Mahindra had revealed that their plan is to launch Jawa motorcycles in India within 2 years. With the Yezdi motorcycle website (Yezdi.com) now going live, are we going to see the rebirth of Yezdis in India?
Anand Mahindra recently took to social media to draw attention to a new website that proclaims ‘Yezdis of India’. Though the website does not mention anything about this bike coming back into markets, the resurrected bike brand could be making its Indian debut at the 2018 Auto Expo with a probable launch sometime at the end of 2019.
Sometime last year, Mahindra and Mahindra announced launch of Classic Legends, a company that resurrects legends. Classic Legends has also signed a license agreement with Jawa brand to launch its products in India where it is still met with increased demand. Mahindra has also stated that launch of some models could be initiated in around two years though not under the Mahindra brand but under their respective brands.
