More details of the Mahindra KUV100 (Kompact Utility Vehicle), previously known by its codenamed S101, are set to be released later today. Overdrive reports that the new mini crossover will be powered by a petrol engine named mFalcon.
Being a sub-4 m product, the KUV100 adopts a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. The Mahindra mFalcon 1.2 is the first of a comprehensive petrol engine lineup by the Indian UV specialist. The company officials had previously revealed that every Mahindra product would have a petrol engine option by 2020. New petrol engines displacing 1.6- and 2.0-litre are expected to be in the pipeline for bigger models.
While more details of the KUV100’s petrol motor are scarce as of now, there is a mild possibility of the mill employing a tiny turbocharger. Mahindra’s second crossover is designed as an alternative to the regular crop of compact hatchbacks such as Maruti Celerio, Hyundai Grand i10, Chevrolet Beat, etc.
The teaser shows a sporty front fascia with LED daytime running lights. With a tall stance and quintessential crossover elements such as roof racks and skid plates, the KUV100 would appeal to the SUV loving masses.
The Mahindra KUV100 will also be offered with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder diesel engine. While a manual transmission will be standard, an AMT is also likely to be in the offing.
