Mahindra & Mahindra takes pride in following the trend in India after Tata Motors, of tying up with an e-commerce major to take bookings of a real sized vehicle. The deal is a win-win as both parties stand to gain the honours of promoting the new strategy, and both get relentless attention. This is not the first time Mahindra partners with Snapdeal; earlier this year M&M started selling bullet proof kit (against 9 mill pistol fire) for Scorpio priced at Rs. 25,000, which is still listed in Snapdeal. Teaser of new Scorpio SUV which we saw lately is put up on the homepage of Snapdeal, which hyperlinks to a page to choose one of six variants and five colours. Usual listing similar to books, electronics and clothes is also done; each variant shows up as different product.
A short brief on each variant shows Scorpio S2 is the entry model with m2DiCr engine, S4 is base variant with mHawk engine, S6 is mid-level trim with 2DIN audio system & body coloured exterior fitment, S6+ will have driver Airbag & ABS, S8 will have dual Airbags, ABS and alloy wheels, and S10 being top-end Scorpio will feature dvanced touch-screen infotainment system, Steering mounted Audio & Cruise controls, Reverse Parking Assist, Rain & Light sensors, Micro-Hybrid technology and the like.
Snapdeal’s description of new generation Mahindra Scorpio confirms launch on 25th September 2014, and that the SUV will be available in showrooms from the same day. Booking amount for any of the variants is Rs. 20,000. Post launch, Snapdeal representative would suggest a dealer and customers will be instructed to complete payment at showroom and take delivery in about 4 to 6 weeks.
Sadly, Snapdeal does not allow to apply discount coupons to get price reduction of new Scorpio, nor Cash On Delivery (COD) option. Snapdeal did give hefty discounts on purchase of Tata Indica Vista back in 2011, but the case of Scorpio is just pre-launch booking.
