Mahindra Thar Interiors and Exteriors – Detailed on Video

Mahindra Thar comes with several feature and safety updates – It is the most advanced Thar ever

On India’s 74th Independence Day, Mahindra has revealed their new generation Thar. Spotted on test since the last two years, the wait has finally ended today for Thar fans, as Mahindra took the wraps off their toughest SUV yet. To be offered only as a 2 door variant in the start, bookings will open from next month, while prices will be announced on 2nd October 2020 – which is when the SUV will be officially launched.

Though the new Mahindra Thar continues to sport the same boxy stance as was seen on its earlier counterpart, it does receive several updates. For starters, it is positioned on a new platform. The new ladder frame chassis has been developed to comply with the more stringent crash and safety norms.

Dr. Pawan Goenka, MD & CEO, M&M Ltd said, “Today, with the unveil of the All-New Thar, we rewrite history once again. The All-New Thar is firmly rooted in our rich automotive heritage and upholds the Mahindra DNA in its purest form. We are proud of our authentic SUV legacy that has been guarding the freedom of this nation by serving the armed forces since the 1950s, while simultaneously becoming the spirit of adventure and a lifestyle icon. The All-New Thar is a dynamic expression of fun, freedom and independence, and is geared up for its next adventure.” Below is the official video of new Thar, showcasing its exteriors, interiors and off-roading capabilities.

Interiors also get updated with more features than were seen on the older model. Seats are washable, infotainment system and touchscreen is weather proof. What this means is that after a fun filled off-road weekend, if your car gets dirty from the inside, it will be very easy to wash it and get it cleaned for your daily routine from Monday onwards.

Not only the interiors are more feature loaded, they are also more premium and spacious than the older Thar. AC has been improved, NVH levels are better, safety is improved. Safety equipment will range from dual front airbags, reverse parking camera, rear parking sensors, front seat belt reminder, ABS and EBD. ISOFIX child seat anchors and disc brakes on all four wheels are also some of the new features that will enhance the safety of the Thar.

2020 Mahindra Thar

New Mahindra Thar is being offered with a removable canopy with choice of soft top or hard top; with the latter being more practical for city commute. It will be offered in both 2+2 as well as 2+4 seating option. It will sit on new 5 spoke, 18 inch alloy wheels fitted with all terrain CEAT tyres.

Veejay Nakra, CEO, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd. said, “The Thar has represented the spirit of freedom, thrill and fun-to-drive character that few other vehicles can match. With the All-New Thar, we aim to protect this legacy with superior performance both on and off the tarmac, advanced technology features, excellent safety and everyday ride comfort, all adding to the unadulterated driving pleasure of a true-blue modern SUV.”

2020 Mahindra Thar will get a choice of a petrol engine for the first time. The petrol engine option will be a new 2.0 liter turbocharged unit rated at 150 hp power and 320 Nm torque. The 2.2 liter diesel engine will offer 130 hp and 320 Nm. Both engines are offered with 6 MT or 6 AT. 4×4 is also on offer with new Thar. All variants get Shift-on-the-Fly 4×4 Manual Shift Transfer Case with Low Crawl Ratio.
