Announced officially last month, Mahindra’s new global SUV, TUV300 is scheduled for a launch on 10th September 2015. The launch event will take place at the automaker’s state of the art manufacturing facility in Chakan, near Pune.

Design inspired from a battle tank, Mahindra TUV300 is built on an all-new ladder-frame platform. Mahindra claims that this new platform is not only rigid, but is also structurally stronger, making the SUV safer. To be offered only with a diesel engine, price of TUV300 is expected to start in the range of Rs 5 lakhs.

Also known as mini Bolero, Mahindra TUV300 is the first compact SUV in the sub 4 meter segment from the company which has been built from the ground-up. (Quanto was a chopped version of Xylo). It has been designed and engineered in-house by engineers at Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai, signifying Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Make-in-India’ campaign.

Speaking about the engine which will power TUV300, it is expected to be a completely new 1.5l 3 cylinder unit under the mHawk line-up. Expect it to deliver power in the range of 80 hp (because this particular engine is called mHawk80). To be offered as a FWD, there is a possibility of Mahindra launching a 4WD version at a later stage as the new platform can theoretically accommodate a 4WD.

Tested across the world, TUV300 has already been spied with minimal camouflage. Unlike the only other sub 4m SUV on sale in India, TUV300 offers a much bigger and sturdier presence on road. The base variant getsblack bumpers in the front and rear, black door handles and grille. The top end variant is expected to get XUV500 styled grille, body coloured bumpers and door handles.
