Mahindra U301 dashboard spied, reveals new details
The sub 4 meter SUV from Mahindra & Mahindra, codenamed U301 has spied on a number of occasions. Some captured it inside the city, while some captured it on a highway. It was also caught testing in Manali and also outside India. Now, we have a peek into the car. Here is the first spy shot Mahindra U301 dashboard with manual transmission.
U301 will be based on the Scorpio platform, unlike the monocoque based S101 and 102 compact SUVs. Positioned as a mini Bolero, the compact SUV will sport a dashboard that will see a mix of aluminium and chrome. The instrument cluster will see two large circular dials as is also seen on the XUV500. Steering wheel will be in a new design with three spokes and a distinctive Mahindra logo. Rectangular AC vents are seen in faux brushed aluminium finish while USB and AUX-In ports are also visible along with a 12V socket.
To be marketed as a rugged compact SUV, with a can-do-anything attitude, the new Mahindra U301 is aimed at buyers in the rural India. To catch attention of buyers in this segment, the car is expected to come loaded with features like rear AC vents, steering mounted controls, power windows, etc.
Not much is known about engine options. But expect a 1.5 liter MiCD three cylinder twin stage turbo diesel engine, also seen powering the Quanto. This engine is capable of 100 bhp power and 240 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. Apart from MT, earlier spyshot of U301 confirmed the AMT gearbox aboard the U301 as well. Initially to be launched in a two wheel drive version, M&M is also working on a 4 wheel drive variant of U301. Expect price to range around Rs 7 lakhs.
