In order to increase the safety of their citizens, Kolkata Police have purchased a total of 58 units of the new Mahindra TUV300 SUVs. These new SUVs have been officially inducted into service in the presence of Shri Anuj Sharma, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata.
Speaking about the purpose these brand new SUVs will be used for, Kolkata Police said, “We believe that this new addition to the patrolling system will strengthen and strengthen the city’s protection system.”
Kolkata is not the first city to have bought Mahindra cars, in order to increase protection of their citizens. There have been many cities who have bought Mahindra cars for patrolling the city’s streets. Mumbai too had purchased brand 195 units of the new Mahindra TUV300 SUVs for patrolling purpose in June last year.
These Mahindra TUV300 SUVs are similar in design in features as to what is sold to civilians in the showrooms. But come with added features which help the Police network better in order to stop crime or provide help to citizens in a timely manner.
The exteriors of all 58 units of TUV300 SUV purchased by Kolkata Police is finished in white colour. There are Kolkata Police decals on the front, rear, side as well as on the windscreen. It also gets flashing lights and siren installed. There is also a PA system, in case the cops need to make any announcement to the public.
The variants purchased by Kolkata Police are the base trim – T4+. These are on sale for about Rs 8.6 lakhs, ex-sh, Delhi. These are powered by a 1.5 liter diesel engine which delivers 100 hp and 240 Nm. Transmission is via 5 speed manual gearbox. These are rear wheel drive cars. Mileage claim is 18.49 kmpl.
Features on offer by Mahindra with this variant are – dual airbags, ABS, EBD, Engine immobilizer, central locking, speed sensing door lock, child safety lock, rear parking sensors, AC, height adjustable driver seat, jump seats for 3rd row (to use it as a 7 seater), power windows, analog instrument cluster, door ajar warning, low fuel warning, etc. Warranty is of 1 lakh kms / 3 years.
