25th March 2015 UPDATE: India made Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Alto K10 have been officially launched in Algeria, after they were showcased last month. Price of Alto 800 starts from 880,000 Algerian Dinars (Rs 5.70 lakhs), while that of Alto K10 starts from 980,000 AD (Rs 6.34 lakhs). Apart from this, Algeria also gets the India made Celerio, in both AMT and manual transmission option. The MT variant price starts from 1.14 million AD (Rs 7.39 lakhs) while the AMT variant price starts from 1.25 million AD (Rs 8.10 lakhs). All cars comes with dual front airbags and ABS as standard.
Alto duo sent to Africa are pretty enviable as they get ABS and dual Airbags for starters. Indian versions of 800 and K10 only get driver-side Airbag as top-end option.
25th February 2015: Elsecom Sarl, the company which represents Suzuki and distributes its cars in Algeria (North Africa), has showcased next generation versions of Alto twins, Alto 800 and Alto K10. Price is yet to be revealed, but it is confirmed that Maruti Alto 800 with Airbags, ABS will soon be launched in local market.
Maruti Suzuki plant in Gurgaon sends the new generation Alto K10 and Alto 800 (Left Hand Drive) to Algeria, but they are not entirely the same as Indian spec models.
It seems Maruti Suzuki, the largest carmaker in India, is taking the local market for granted as it does not offer ABS and dual Airbags in either of the Alto’s. Even height adjustable head restraints on front seats are unavailable in India, but is made for Africa.
Moreover, Maruti Alto 800 Africa spec gets dashboard and most of features from Alto K10, making them fundamentally different only in terms of engine and power. Common feature in both variants are Adaptive Electric Power Steering, Dual Front Airbags, ABS, Radio with CD, Aux-in & USB connectivity, Manual Air Conditioning, Front Power Windows, Tinted Windows, Under-seat Mechanical Switch for Fuel Lid & Hatch Gate, Wheel Covers and Body-colored Door Handles & Bumpers.
Also, Suzuki Alto K10 for Africa benefits from additional Front Fog Lamps, Chrome Grille, Side Mouldings / Scratch Protectors and Central Locking. There is no change in powertrain in either of the models.
