Maruti Baleno is developed at an investment of INR 1,060 crore

Unveiled officially in India at media drive event in Jaipur, new details of the Maruti Baleno hatchabck has emerged. The most premium hatchback from Maruti Suzuki, Baleno has been developed from scratch at an investment of INR 1,060 crore.

A global car, Maruti Baleno is not only going to be sold in India, but will be sold in developed markets like Europe and Japan. Yes, Baleno will become the first car in the history of Maruti Suzuki to be exported to the home country of its parent, Suzuki Motors. To be manufactured only in India, Baleno will be exported to over 100 countries.

In India, the new Baleno is to be launched in four trim levels – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. Below are variant-wise features on offer with the Baleno in India:

Maruti Baleno is built on an all-new platform which has made the car lighter and stronger than smaller hatchback Swift.

Speaking about engine options, Maruti Suzuki Baleno in India is powered by a 1.2 liter K Series petrol engine offering 84.3 PS power and 115 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual. A a CVT is also on offer with the petrol engine, but only with the Delta trim. Mileage claimed by petrol manual is 21.4 kmpl.

Diesel engine is in the form of a 1.3 liter DDiS diesel engine is capable of 75 PS power and 190 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual. Mileage claimed by diesel variant is 27.3 kmpl.

Maruti Baleno will be exclusively sold via NEXA dealerships, which the company claims to be the fastest growing dealer network in the country. With first NEXA dealer launched in August, the company aims to open 100th NEXA outlet by December 2015.

While more details will be revealed in the days heading towards launch, pricing could be expected in the range of INR 5.5 to 8 lakhs, ex-showroom.
