Today, at their Headquarters in New Delhi, India’s largest car manufacturer begin a new chapter. Maruti Suzuki launched their first ever diesel engine built in-house, aboard their small car Celerio. The new Maruti Celerio diesel is open for bookings from today, below is the full price list:
Maruti Celerio LDi – Rs 4.65 lakhs
Maruti Celerio VDi – Rs 4.95 lakhs
Maruti Celerio ZDi – Rs 5.25 lakhs
Maruti Celerio ZDi+ – Rs 5.71 lakhs
The USP of this car is its engine. Built at an investment of Rs 900 crores, this new 793 cc twin cylinder diesel engine unit weighs 89 kgs. It delivers maximum power of 47 hp and 125 Nm torque. Claimed mileage figure stands at 27.62 kmpl; making Celerio diesel as the most fuel efficient car on offer in India. But, this does not mean that Celerio is not driver-focused, claims Maruti; thanks to some innovative work done by Maruti engineers.
For eg – Though the engine weighs 89 kgs, the diesel Celerio is only 70 kgs heavier than the petrol Celerio. Then there is the efficient new manual transmission system with hydraulic clutch, and optimized gear ratio. This results in reduction of mechanical losses, easy gear shifts, and clutch release. Overall, giving peppier drive experience, even in the most difficult traffic conditions.
And not to forget – compared to Swift diesel engine, the Celerio diesel engine delivers more torque per cc
Offered in a choice of 4 trims (LDi, VDi, ZDi and ZDi+), basics remains same as compared to the Celerio petrol variant, which was launched early last year. Compared to the petrol variant, the only difference is the unavailability of an AMT transmission. Yes, Maruti Celerio Diesel will only be offered with five speed manual transmission.
Though there is a chance that diesel Celerio might get an AMT, but at a later stage. The reason being, since its launch, Maruti has managed to sell more than 95,000 units of Celerio; more than 50% of these were AMT variants.
Measuring 3600 mm long, 1420 mm wide, and 1560 mm tall, Celerio diesel has a wheelbase of 2425 mm; Celerio diesel comes in a choice of six bright colours – Silky Silver, Glistening Grey, Pearl Arctic White, Sunshine Ray, Cerulean Blue, and Blazing Red. These colours are on offer across all trims.
Variant-wise features on board new Maruti Celerio diesel are same as its petrol counterpart. Top end ZDi+ gets alloys, electric orvms with turn indicators, steering mounted controls, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, day-night IRVM, security system, keyless entry, tilt steering, and much more.
Maruti signed off saying that their new diesel engine could be seen on board their other products in the future, like Alto, WagonR.
