Maruti Eeco facelift is set for launch in September 2015

Maruti Eeco was launched in India in 2010. It is basically a stripped down version of Maruti Versa which was discontinued due to poor sales. Versa was launched in 2001 as an upgrade to Omni at price of around Rs. 5.5 lakhs, but it was considered too expensive and did not appeal to buyers as an attractive family vehicle.

Maruti Eeco
Maruti Eeco is a widely appreciated Multi Utility Vehicle that sells at around 5,000 units per month.

Anyways, the name Versa was scored off and its platform and vitals were used to build a new brand called Eeco; and it took off. Maruti Eeco is powered by 1.2-liter K-Series petrol engine pushing out 73 bhp max power @ 6,000 rpm and 101 Nm peak torque @ 3,000 rpm, mated to 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to rear wheels.

Maruti Eeco is currently available in three variants – 5 seater base model, 5 seater with AC and 7 seater without AC. The MPV is pretty rudimentary, but has safety features like crumple zones and side impact beams which really got its safety ratings up. What Eeco is really known for is its generous cabin room offering relaxable space for occupants, and the car’s price.

Ex-showroom Delhi price of Maruti Eeco starts at Rs. 3.12 lakhs, and the most expensive version costs just Rs. 4.17 lakhs.

New Maruti Eeco facelift slated for launch this year would probably add AC in 7-seater variant, apart from slightly enhanced exteriors and interiors.
