(Maruti) Suzuki Ignis with safety pack scores 5 star rating in crash test – Video

EURO NCAP has crash tested the India-bound Maruti Suzuki Ignis small SUV. Two variants have been tested, one is the standard variant while the other is equipped with safety pack. As per the crash test result, the former was given 3 star safety rating while the latter was given a 5 star safety rating.

The Ignis will slot below the Vitara Brezza. The car will be positioned as a crossover alternative to the B-segment hatchbacks. It will pickup up a fight against the recently launched Mahindra KUV100. Below is the crash test video.

The Maruti Ignis made its Indian debut at the 2016 Auto Expo. The crossover has already started testing in the country, signalling that it would be launched early next year. The compact Ingis measures 3,679 mm in length, 1,579 mm in height and 1,478 mm in width. It has a wheelbase and ground clearance of 2,435 mm and 180 mm respectively. At 133 litres, the boot space is rather modest but by folding the split rear seats, it can be increased up to 415 litres.

Equipment on the top-end variant includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, fog lamps, alloy wheels, roof rails, infotainment system, multifunction steering wheel and so on.

Powertrain details have not been confirmed yet but the familiar 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine are expected to be on offer. The India-spec variant is not expected to be equipped with the AllGrip all-wheel-drive.
