Maruti recalls 1.34 lakh units of WagonR and Baleno – To fix for Free

The recall will cover a total of 1,34,885 units of both models and faulty parts will be replaced free of cost

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, leading automakers in India have announced a voluntary recall of WagonR and Baleno due to a possible fault in the fuel pump. This recall includes a total of 1,34,885 units out of which 56,663 units of the WagonR and 78,222 units of the Baleno.

All affected units will be inspected and faulty parts will be replaced free of cost. The recalled models of the WagonR are those produced during the period November 15, 2018 and October 15, 2019 while Baleno petrol variants manufactured during the January 8, 2019 and November 4 2019 period are also recalled.

Maruti Suzuki will be contacting all the owners of these affected vehicles via the company’s authorized dealers. Conversely, customers can also gain information on the company website www.marutisuzuki.com (for WagonR) and www.nexaexperience.com (for Baleno). The Maruti Suzuki WagonR is sold via Arena outlets while the Baleno is retailed via NEXA outlets in the country.

This recall information will be under the Imp Customer Info Section. Owners will have to fill in vehicle chassis details such as MA3 or MBH followed by the 14 digit alpha numeric number to check if their vehicle is a part of this recall or not. This chassis number is found on the vehicle ID plant while it is also entered on all vehicle documents such as invoice and registration etc.

Sales performance of WagonR, Baleno in June 2020

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR is a leader in the compact hatchback segment in terms of sales. June sales stood at 6,972 units making it a key contributor to overall sales of the company for the past month even as the car sales in India declined severely due to the coronavirus pandemic. During the same period last year, Maruti had sold 10,228 units of WagonR. Of the Baleno premium hatchback, the company noted sales of 4,300 units in June 2020, a drop of 70 percent as against sales of June 2019.

The WagonR is powered by two engine options. The 1.0 liter petrol engine offers 67 hp power at 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm torque at 3,500 rpm. The 1.2 liter petrol makes 82 hp power at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm torque at 4,200 rpm. Both engines get mated to a 5 speed manual transmission and AMT. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is powered by a 1.2 liter petrol engine offering 83 hp power and 113 Nm torque while ther is also a 1.2 liter smart hybrid petrol engine on offer capable of 90 hp power and 113 Nm torque. Both engines get mated to a 5 speed manual transmission while the 1.2 liter petrol also gets a CVT automatic transmission.
