The Maruti Suzuki Deccan Rally from Pune to Goa has been flagged off today. The rally is a part of the automaker’s National Superleague TSD (Time, Speed, Distance) Rally Championship 2016. The 4 day rally was flagged off by Vineet Jain, Regional Manager (West), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.
Today is all about the mandatory scrutiny of the participating teams and ceremonial flag-off. Tomorrow, the contenders will set off towards Guhagar, Ratnagiri, which marks the end of the first leg. The second leg on Sunday will involve crossing through Ratnagiri to Goa. The rally will cover a distance of over 700 km in 2 days. Winners will be felicitated in Goa on May 16.
The Deccan Rally will see 35 teams in contention including the winners of the first round of the National Superleague TSD Rally Karthick Maruthi and Sankar Anand. There are 5 all-women team and a total of 11 women participants
The teams are divided into categories. Championship contenders are classified under ‘Expert’ level. Non-championship contenders are further split into two groups – Experts and Amateurs.
Apart from Maruti’s own range of crossovers like the S-Cross and Vitara Brezza, the rally also sees participation from a wide variety of cars and SUVs.
