RS Kalsi, Executive Director of Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, has confirmed launch timeframe of the company’s much awaited compact crossover.
To be offered in petrol and diesel engine options, Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha concept was first unveiled at 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. This new concept showcased the automaker’s intentions to explore the lucrative under 4 metre urban SUV segment, dominated by Ford EcoSport.
Prototype of this compact crossover codenamed Maruti YBA, has been spotted testing quite a number of times near the Manesar plant premises, since the later part of 2014. Production version is believed to be due for completion, and the car was expected to launch sometime in 2016.
Now that XA Alpha is confirmed for early 2016 launch, the country’s largest carmaker will have a good lead before Tata Motors launches the production version of Nexon concept, in the same segment. The latter is expected to make market debut by H2 2016.
But long before Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha breaks cover, the company will test the response for its second attempt in the SUV segment, with the Maruti Across slated for launch next month.
