Maruti Swift/DZire base variant gets optional airbags and ABS

Maruti Swift LXi (o)
Last week, Maruti Suzuki announced optional safety features across all variants of Swift, DZire, and Celerio.

India’s leading car manufacturer will now offer optional safety features on the entry level variants of Swift and DZire.

Swift and DZire together fetch Maruti Suzuki India about 35,000 units in sales on average every month. This means, almost every third car sold by the car maker, is either a Swift or DZire.

Easily a popular choice of most buyers in the country, sadly the option of airbags and ABS was only offered as standard with the top of the line variants. Those who did not want to buy the top-end variants, were left with no option but to choose the less safer entry and mid level variants.

That was until today. Maruti Suzuki has now announced that both their cars – Swift / DZire will now be offered with optional dual front airbags and ABS in the base as well as mid variant. Opting to choose for these optional features, increases the price of the respective base variant of both the cars by about INR 25,000.

With the images of crumpled Baleno from the horrific accident last week, fresh in the mind of buyers of Maruti Suzuki cars, this move is definitely a step forward from the leading Indian car maker. Let’s hope that Maruti is also working towards offering Airbags and ABS on all their models, not only as option, but as standard.
