Maruti Vitara Brezza clears offset and side impact tests; AMT under consideration

Talking to, C.V. Raman, Executive Director – Engineering, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL), revealed that the Maruti Vitara Brezza is the first product by the automaker to be homologated for offset and side impact crash test compliance.

He also revealed that the Vitara Brezza is the first vehicle in the country to receive the homologation certificate from iCAT. The crossover is confirmed to have driver airbag as a standard fitment even in the entry level model. Passenger airbag and ABS are available as optional extra staring from the base variant.

When asked about the possibility of a diesel AMT variant, Mr. Raman said that the car is sporty and the company would like to keep it that way for the moment. However, he added that AMT is definitely under consideration for future. He also confirmed that there will be petrol engine in the future lineup.

The Maruti Vitara Brezza is the first ever product to be fully developed in India. Slated to go on sale in the second half of next month, the Brezza will lock horns with fellow sub-4 m SUVs like the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300.
