The Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ignis crossover SUVs have been teased ahead of their debut at the Auto Expo 2016. While the Ignis made its global premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show last year, the Vitara Brezza, an India-specific model, will make its first public appearance at the biennial auto show.
The teaser image gives us a glimpse of the Vitara Brezza’s headlamp and grille. The narrow cluster incorporate HID element and LED daytime running lights. The front grille is highlighted by a prominent ‘H’ shaped logo carrying chrome insert.
The sub-4 m SUV has been developed primarily by Maruti to cater to the promising compact SUV segment which is currently populated by the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300. The Vitara Brezza shares several of its components including powertrains with the Swift and Dzire. Hence, one can expect the car to be priced very competitively.
The EcoSport rival will be propelled by the familiar 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine which develops 84.5 PS and 114 Nm of torque. The diesel option will be the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine but it remains to be seen whether it will be offered in the 75 PS/190 Nm guise or in 90 PS/200 Nm avatar. A 5-speed MT will be a standard transmission option while the petrol variant could also get a 4-AT variant.
The Ignis is a smaller SUV which would go on against the likes of the newly launched Mahindra KUV100. The car’s objective at the Expo is to gather public opinion. The automaker has also teased the Maruti Baleno RS with sportier wheels and body kit.
