There are electric two wheelers galore at the Auto Expo 2018! Right from the mainstream OEM giants to newly mushroomed mobility startups, electric scooters and motorcycles seem to the points of focus this year. Meet the Menza Lucat which is marketed as India’s first electric Urban Sport motorcycle.
Launched at INR 2.79 lakhs (ex-showroom), the Lucat has a visual appeal of an aftermarket custom motorcycle with its carbon fibre body, flat clip-on handlebar, cantilevered tailpiece, spoke wheels, circular LED headlights and twin-tube swing arm.
The motorcycle is powered by a brushless DC motor which is rated at 18 KW and 60 Nm of torque. The motor derives electricity from a 6 KWh 72 V Li-ion battery pack which is claimed to offer a city range of 100 km and highway range of 150 km.
The battery can be charged in any generic wall socket in about 4 hours while it is compatible with fast charging as well (90 minutes). The system is also supported by regenerative braking system.
The power transmission occurs directly without the presence of a gearbox. The claimed top speed is 121 kmph which is impressive for an electric motorcycle. The Menza Lucat is equipped with 300 mm front and 230 mm rear disc brakes. The front tyre measures 110/70-R17 while the rear unit measures 150/60-R17.
The vehicle employs an aluminium trellis frame which is supported by an inverted WP telescopic front suspension and a custom rear monoshock. The Lucat tips the scales at 153 kg.
