Mercedes Benz India sells 13,231 cars in 2016 – Sales Report

Despite demonetization, Mercedes Benz India has managed to once again register sales of more than 13,000 units. They are the only luxury car maker in the country to have such a feat yet. For 2016, Mercedes Benz India sales stood at 13,231 units, as against 13,502 units sold in 2015. Surprisingly, sales on Dec 2016 were higher than that of Dec 2015, says Mercedes India.

Apart from demonetization, Mercedes Benz India also had to battle the diesel ban in NCR, which accounts for about 7% of company’s total sales. The diesel ban was finally lifted after 8 months, bringing relief to customers as well as the car maker.

2016 saw the automaker leave no stone unturned having announced 13 car launches through 12 months. Mercedes-Benz India continues to expand it’s footprint in the country through timely dealership expansion. Dealership network expansion has seen Mercedes-Benz India tap into markets in smaller cities. On last count, Mercedes-Benz India reported the densest luxury car manufacturer network in the country.

Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India says the company is competent when providing newer responsibilities and opportunities to employees to promote internal talent. The approach benefits overall company growth.

Speaking about 2017, Mr Folger says – “In 2017, we will continue our winning philosophy with ‘ONE TEAM, ONE GOAL’ approach, which aims at creating the best customer experience, through a range of varied customer centric initiatives.”

“Mercedes-Benz India’s growth strategy for 2017 will comprise an aggressive product line-up, which will see launch of new products across segments, some of which will be without a predecessor. There will be a mix of volume cars and also performance cars in the product mix offered in 2017. In 2017, Mercedes-Benz will also undertake the next phase of initiatives in the after-sales domain with new innovations in the pipeline planned, including the roll-out of ‘My Mercedes, My Service 2.0’ amongst other initiatives.”

Globally, Mercedes Benz sold 2,083,888 vehicles through 2016, up 11.3 percent. This means Mercedes Benz has beaten BMW to become the largest luxury car maker in the world.
