Mercedes details new 2 liter diesel engine, replaces existing 2.1 liter

It will be newly developed Turbo OM-654 2 liter diesel engine that will power the new generation Mercedes Benz E Class. The 2016 E 220d, which goes on sale this spring will sport this new all-aluminum four cylinder diesel engine offering 13% better economy as compared to the earlier 2.1 liter engine. Displacement has also been considerably reduced to 2 liters while weight is brought down to 168.4 kgs as against 202.8 kgs thanks to an all aluminum makeup.

Mercedes OM-654 engine for the E 220d also offers lower noise levels and less vibration while it is also seen with fourth generation common rail injection system, steel pistons and combustion bowls besides NANOSLIDE cylinder coating.

Where power and performance is concerned, the new engine on board the Mercedes Benz E 220d will be capable of 190 hp at 3,800 rpm and 295lb/ft (400 Nm) torque at 1,600 to 2,800 rpm mated to a 9 speed automatic transmission. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is achieved in 7.3 seconds while top speed stands at 240 kmph.
Fuel efficiency stands at between 4.7 to 4.3 liters per 100 km in city limits going down to 4.1 to 3.6 liters on the highway while in combined cycle, fuel efficiency will stand at 4.3 to 3.9 liters per 100 km. CO2 emission on the Mercedes OM-654 engine varies between 112 and 102 g/km.

The Mercedes Benz E Class fitted with this new OM 654 engine is slated to go on sale this spring and will be priced from €47,124 in Germany.
