The Mercedes GLC is getting ready to launch in India in the month of July. Previously known as the GLK, the second iteration of the C-Class based SUV made its global premiere in June last year and was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in February 2016.
The GLC is a part of Mercedes India’s 12-car launch strategy for this year. To be slotted below the GLE, the new luxury SUV will be picking up a fight against the BMW X1 and Audi Q3.
Based on the C-Class’ MRA architecture which uses a significant amount of aluminium in the construction, the new GLC boasts of substantial weight loss compared to its predecessor. The styling also has plenty of obvious references to its sedan sibling, both inside and outside. The GLC’s wheelbase is longer than that of the GLK by a good 114 m so the rear legroom has improved significantly.

The India-bound Mercedes GLC would be powered by a 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel engine which is mated to a 9-speed transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. The prices are estimated to start at INR 45 lakhs.
