MG Hector by Morris Garages is all set to be launched in India next month. Ahead of that, production has started at company plant in Halol, near Vadodara in Gujarat. MG India recently organized a dealer meet where plant tour as well as test drives of the new Hector SUV were also given to their dealer partners in Vadodara.
MG Hector is a modern SUV, which will enter a segment currently dominated by the Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier and top variants of Hyundai Creta. Expected to be priced in the Rs 15 lakh range, MG Hector receives a large front grille sporting the MG logo in the center. This blacked out grille receives chrome surrounds.
Chrome accents are also seen on the headlamp cluster, front bumper and on the sides of the car, enhancing its premium appeal. Adding to its muscular appeal are black plastic cladding on lower parts of all sides and protruding wheel arches. It gets a floating roof with roof rails, machine cut two tone alloy wheels in a 5 thick and 5 thin spoke design and twin LED tail lamps. It also gets a faux diffuser in a silver colour and a triangular exhaust tip.
The interiors of MG Hector feature beige and grey colour scheme. It gets features such as a 360 degree parking camera, a panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control and colour MID. The dashboard follows a vertical theme with AC vents and a large 10.4” touchscreen. The iSmart connectivity system offers advanced technology, smart application, built in apps, artificial intelligence, smart features, voice assist and infotainment. The eSIM card will connect the SUV to India based servers and offer information such as real time car health status, traffic information, biometrics and over the air updates.
MG Hector is expected to be powered by 3 engine options. The 1.5 liter turbocharged petrol engine will offer 143 PS power and 250 Nm torque while the second petrol engine will get a 48V mild hybrid system. The 2.0 liter FCA Multijet diesel engine will be capable of 173 PS power and 350 Nm torque mated to 6 speed manual / DCT.
MG Hector will go on sale from May 2019. MG India claims that they have worked hard on achieving high localization levels, which will result in aggressive price tag. It will not only be the largest SUV in its segment, but will also be most feature-rich. Dealers have been hand picked to deliver best in class buying as well as after sales to their customers.
