MG Motor India sales touched 1,518 units in the past month despite several constraints hitting the auto sector
MG Motor India announced sales of 1,518 units for March 2020 which included 1,402 units of the Hector and 116 units of the ZS EV. These sales figures in the past month were notably higher as compared to 1,376 units sold in February 2020 which included 1,218 units of the Hector and 158 units of the ZS EV.
The MG Hector and ZS EV, the country’s first pure electric internet SUV, have been well received in India. The past month has seen not only MG Motor India face several constraints but every other automaker in the country is also facing plant lock down in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The company’s supply chain has been disrupted globally while the shutting down of the MG Motor India Halol plant has also been resorted to in keeping with the Government of India policy and in the interest and health of their employees and families. The company has also announced that there will be no layoffs of workers while all payments to suppliers and vendors will be made in a timely manner.

MG Motor has also announced Rs.2 crores grant towards the purchase of protective clothing, medicines, ventilators and beds for COVID-19 patients. The company will directly contribute Rs.1 crore while the employees have pledged to donate the remaining amount of Rs.1 crore. This contribution would go to medical intuitions and government hospitals in Gurugram and Halol, the two places where the company has its head office and plant respectively.
Last month, the company also announced a ‘disinfect and deliver’ initiative that ensured that all cars delivered and for test drives would be completely sanitized. The vehicles could be booked via the company’s official website and the company would effect doorstep delivery.
MG Motor India currently sells the Hector SUV and ZS EV. The MG Hector BS6 petrol is priced between Rs.12.74-17.44 lakhs while the MG ZS EV is priced between Rs.20.88-23.58 lakhs. There are no stocks of any BS4 units of the Hector at company dealerships or in factories while production of BS6 variants have commenced.
Where upcoming launches are concerned, the company will bring in the BS6 diesel version of the Hector. The MG Gloster, a full size SUV, is also poised for launch later this year while the company also showcased the Hector Plus, a 6 seater luxury version of the Hector which could launch sometime in the months ahead.
