MG Hector beats Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV500 – Oct 2019

MG Hector sales highest

MG Hector continues to rule the sales charts in the segment. Ever since its launch in July 2019, Hector has managed to stay ahead of its main rivals – Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and the Mahindra XUV500. For Oct 2019 as well, the same remains to be true.

In Oct 2019, MG Hector posted its highest ever monthly sales, which is 3,536 units. On Dhanteras day, MG delivered 700 units of Hector in a single day across India. Thanks to high sales in Oct 2019, MG managed to increase their market share to more than 50% in the segment for the first time.

On the second place for Oct 2019 is Mahindra XUV500. The old horse, which is the only 7 seater car in this comparison, managed to record sales of 1,378 units. Below is the detailed sales table.

On the 3rd spot is Tata Harrier with 1,258 units sold. In comparison to sales in July, Aug and Sep 2019, Harrier sales in Oct 2019 have increased considerably.

Earlier this year, when the Harrier was launched, for many months it was the leading car in the segment. But post launch of Hector, sales of Harrier have declined. One of the biggest reason behind Harrier sales being low in comparison to Hector is the non-availability of a petrol engine. MG has revealed that about 50% of their sales are of petrol engine option.

On the 4th spot is Jeep Compass for Oct 2019. Also the most expensive car in the segment, Jeep Compass registered sales of 854 units for the month. In all, these 4 SUVs together registered sales of 7,026 units. This is the highest sales registered by these 4 SUVs in a month since launch of MG Hector.

Speaking about July – Oct period sales, MG Hector is leading with 9,670 units sold and a 47.4% market share. Mahindra XUV500 is second with 4,582 units sold. Tata Harrier is 3rd with 3,574 units sold and Jeep Compass is 4th with 2,571 units sold.

In 2020, Mahindra plans to launch new gen XUV500, which will help company boost sales. MG plans to launch 6 seater Hector, while Tata has plans to launch Harrier BS6 with more powerful diesel engine and an automatic gearbox. Jeep has plans to launch facelifted Compass. All SUVs will be updated to BS6 by March 2020.
