Maruti Suzuki is the most desired auto brand as per the latest report by TRA Research
Maruti Suzuki — the biggest Indian car manufacturer — has become the most desired automotive brand in the country (irrespective of the category) according to the latest report by TRA Research. In the overall list of brands from all categories, Samsung Mobile secured the top spot while Maruti Suzuki attained an appreciable fifth position.
For years, it has been evident that Maruti Suzuki is the biggest name on the Indian automotive market (passenger segment). Each month, Maruti Suzuki products clock the highest figures on the sales chart, with the likes of Hyundai India following with a substantial gap. As per studies, some of the primary reasons why the average Indian buyer prefers a Maruti Suzuki are pricing, fuel efficiency, maintenance, service network and, of course, the resulting popularity.

Maruti Suzuki still holds the title of being ‘the brand which put Indians in a car (Maruti 800)’ at a time when automobiles were accessible only to the rich. Back then, the brand was known as Maruti Udyog, but the loyalty towards the brand stays strong to date. The Indian automaker, which is a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, currently has a portfolio of around 15 products, among which five are sold through exclusive NEXA outlets. Compared to the regular ARENA showrooms, Maruti Suzuki NEXA sets a new benchmark on the quotient of desirability.
N Chandramouli, CEO of TRA Research, stated that the term ‘desire’ is a longing for a brand “irrespective of its need”. He added that the success of a brand depends heavily on the “desire quotient” it emanates. In this regard, the image and trust created by Maruti Suzuki (and Maruti Udyog) in the minds of Indian consumers will stay intact for years to come.
Top Automotive Brands in 2020
TRA (formerly Trust Research Advisory) is a Brand Intelligence and Data Insights Company which aims to understand the desirability of a brand or product through two globally acclaimed proprietary matrices: Brand Trust and Brand Attractiveness. In the latest TRA report, Royal Enfield became the most desirable two-wheeler brand while the Honda Activa took the title for two-wheelers in general. The Maruti Suzuki Swift is the most desired hatchback.
Interestingly, there are four automotive brands in the top 25 positions on the overall list: Maruti Suzuki (5), Hyundai (10), Royal Enfield (17) and Honda Motorcycle (25). The list has taken sales reports and other relevant data into account. It need not indicate that the top-ranking products are the very best of the lot. Still, at the end of the day, market performance is what which determines a product’s success and every other factor comes second.
