With farmers across India being the most affected by both weather and circumstances playing spoilsport, target to crowd funding is being resorted to by Mahindra Group. Mahindra #SeedTheRise initiative launched for Farmers appeals to the crowd for funding while Mahindra Group will match the same with an equal contribution.
Urban audience can use this crowd funding facility to donate directly to farmer projects while with equal share being donated by Mahindra Group, the donation will have double the impact on farmers. Targeting INR 2 crores from crowd funding, Mahindra Group will add the same mount and is a part of the Mahindra Rise philosophy.
Crowd funding platform bringing together various CSR initiatives helps farmers through the website www.seedtherise.com. Funding can be of help to farmers for various initiatives that include Sustainable Cultivation and Alternative Livelihood (Naandi Foundation), Educating Farmer’s Daughters (Nanhi Kali), Income Enhancement (Swades Foundation) and Delivering an Information Edge (Digital Green).
Debt, drought and various government policies have had an adverse effect on farmers in the country with some of them in such depth of debt that suicide has been the only way out. A study reveals that on an average 1 farmer commits suicide every 30 minutes in India while in 2014 a total of 5650 farmers committed suicide.
Supporting Mahindra Seed The Rise fund raising scheme is Bollywood artist Nawazuddin Siddiqui who was a farmer too, born in a small village in Budhana, UP. He has struggled his way to the top but has not forgotten his roots, and has been included to play a major role as facilitator of this campaign.
