New Honda Civic facelift sedan for India debuts – Launch with diesel engine confirmed

Honda Cars pulled the plug on the Honda Civic in India in 2013. The car was loved a lot by enthusiasts. But, was discontinued due to low sales and high manufacturing costs.

The good news is, Honda Car India is once again bringing the Civic sedan back to our shores. And this time, it will also come with a diesel engine (earlier versions only came with petrol engine, which could be the reason for low sales).

Civic 4 door sedan – India bound.

Just a few hours ago, Honda unveiled the India bound facelifted 10th generation Civic sedan. In its latest avatar, the premium luxury sedan gets even more sportier than before. In the front it has the new Honda grille in piano black flanked by Accord styled LED headlights. There there is the aggressive bumper housing fog lights encased in chrome.

The side design is highlighted by a floating sport-line which emerges from the tip of the headlight and flows all the way to the tail light. Also are visible machine cut alloys.

On the inside, the new Civic will feature all black sporty interiors with a large touchscreen infotainment system powered by latest Honda Digipad software. It will offer Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB compatibility. Also on offer will be sunroof, wireless charging, arm rests for front and rear passengers, rear AC vents, leather seats, 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, cruise control, paddle shifters (CVT only), etc.

Civic 2 door coupe facelift. Not for India.

Engine lineup for India will include one petrol and one diesel engine options. The 2.0 liter i-VTEC petrol engine will be capable of 154 bhp power and 189 Nm torque. The 1.6 liter, 4 cylinder i-DTEC diesel engine offers 118 bhp power at 4,000 rpm and 300 Nm torque at 2,000 rpm.

Both engines will be mated to a 6 speed MT or 9 speed CVT. The new 1.6 liter i-DTEC diesel engine is being developed at the company’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan which will allow for better pricing, Expect the price of new Civic to be in the region of Rs 15-20 lakhs.

Once launched in India, the new Honda Civic is expected to compete with the likes of Volkswagen Jetta, Toyota Corolla, and Skoda Octavia.
