New Jeep Renegade facelift spied undisguised ahead of global debut

FCA is riding high on Compass’ success and the Renegade is expected to be a part of their expansion plan in India

Jeep’s entry level SUV, the Renegade, which has been on sale in the international markets since 2014 is due for a facelift and two new spy-shots of the upcoming version have recently surfaced on the internet.

In Jeep’s portfolio, the Renegade sits under the Compass and Jeep has reportedly been considering it for an Indian debut in late 2018, post the global unveil of the facelift.

The DRL setup is also expected to be similar to the one on the 2019 Wrangler

The spy shots reveal that the new Renegade will feature LED headlamps which look inspired from the ones on the new Wrangler. The new bumper looks beefier and houses the fog lamps which have been repositioned more towards the centre, compared to the current model. The exterior updates also include a change in the plastic cladding’s colour, from black on the current version to matte-grey in the facelift.

There is also a new touch-screen infotainment system, which is expected to be as large as 8.4 inches. Going by the trend, it is safe to assume that the new unit shall offer Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity. To add to the flavour of the update, new upholstery options and subtle changes are expected in the cabin.

Continuing with the trend, aggressive pricing is expected from Jeep. The lower trims of the Renegade can potentially start from around 10 lakhs INR.

The India-bound Renegade shall be sharing its engine options with its elder sibling, the Jeep Compass. The baby SUV is expected to be offered with 2 engine options, a 140hp, 2.0-litre diesel mill and a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine. Two-wheel drive is believed to come as standard, along with a full-time four-wheel drive option.
