Mahindra’s new compact SUV, based on the international-spec SsangYong Tivoli seems to be ready for launch. A new production ready version has been spotted in Karnataka, where it was getting off-loaded outside a Mahindra dealership. The event was caught on camera by Rushlane reader Mr Shreyas Manohar.
This 5 seater compact SUV will be a sub 4 meter car from Mahindra. It will compete with the likes of Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza upon launch. It will not rival with Mahindra TUV300, which also is a sub 4 meter car.
The reason – TUV300 is a proper SUV and has 7 seats, but lacks premium ad luxury. On the other hand, the new Mahindra 2018 SUV will offer premium features and luxury to passengers, as seen on board rivals.
Speaking about the new Mahindra SUV, it will host a lot of exciting features among which will be dual climate control, 4 disc brakes, projector headlamp, LED tail lamps, sunroof and infotainment via anew 7” system. It will also receive a long list of safety features which will also include multiple airbags.
Interiors have also been spied while the model was on test and it appears to have borrowed its dashboard from the Tivoli with similar central console and instrument cluster as also its steering wheel design. The sub-Rs 10 lakh SUV, may miss out on dual zone climate controls, ventilated seats with leather upholstery, electrically operated and heated rear view mirrors and front parking sensors, though these are on offer on the Tivoli in the UK.
This new Mahindra SUV is expected to be powered by a new range of 1.6 liter engine which Mahindra has been developing along with SsangYong. Not much is known about this engine.
Other option this car could get is the 1.2 liter, three cylinder G80 turbo petrol engine and 1.5 liter mHawk diesel engine. Transmission options will be manual as well as automatic / AMT. More details will be revealed closer to launch date.
