New Maruti Ciaz vs Volkswagen Vento vs Toyota Yaris – Comparison

Earlier this week Maruti Suzuki India Limited launched the 2018 Ciaz sedan. It comes in at a base price of Rs 8.19 lakhs for the petrol manual Sigma variant and goes up to Rs 10.97 lakhs for the Alpha automatic variant. All diesel variants are priced from Rs 9.19-10.97 lakhs, though diesel variants do not get an automatic option.

2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz sedan on sale through NEXA showrooms is presented in four primary variants – Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha and 11 versions of which 7 are petrol cars and 4 are diesel vehicles.

Exterior color options include Glistening Grey, Nexa Blue, Pearl Metallic Dignity Brown, Pearl Midnight Black, Pearl Sangria Red, Pearl Snow White and Silky Silver. The new Ciaz gets a host of new exterior and interior features and takes on Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and Toyota Yaris in terms of competition.

In the previous post, we compared the Maruti Ciaz with City and Verna. In this post, we will see how the Ciaz fares against the Vento and Yaris on paper.

Volkswagen Vento – Vento is preferred by a niche audience in the C-segment, but its volumes aren’t enough to offer direct competition to Ciaz. Vento’s engines are more powerful, but they lack the advanced SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle System) technology that Ciaz offers. As a matter of fact, all rivals of Ciaz lack the advanced SHVS technology.

However, Vento has DSG gearbox, which is its USP. No other car in the segment comes with a DSG gearbox. Even though 2018 Ciaz now offers more features than Vento and scores higher in styling, comfort and technology integration, if you want a driver’s car – Vento has to be your choice.

Toyota Yaris – This is available only in petrol variant, with a 1.5-litre engine that delivers almost the same power and torque as Ciaz. Yaris is a new entrant in the C-segment and its petrol engine delivers 106 bhp of power and 140Nm of torque. However, Yaris comes with CVT whereas Ciaz only has 4-speed automatic transmission (AT). Both cars are evenly matched in terms of features.

From the price point, it is the Ciaz which makes more sense. If you want a more relaxed experience, with more space and comfort, opt for new Ciaz. If you want a driver’s car, then it is the Vento for you. And if you want the safest car in the segment, then it is the Yaris for you.
