All-new, second generation Maruti Ertiga is all set to be launched on November 21. With several new features and upgrades and a new petrol engine, 2018 Ertiga is likely to emerge as a wily competitor to the likes of Mahindra Marazzo and Honda BRV. Here’s a quick comparison between New Maruti Ertiga vs Honda BRV vs Mahindra Marazzo to understand which MPV is the best in this segment.
Dimensions – In terms of size, Mahindra Marazzo is a clear winner. It measures 4585mm in length, 1866mm in width, 1774mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2760mm. All these specs are higher than that of all-new Ertiga and Honda BRV. It implies that Marazzo is built to dominate the roads and it will also have more space on the inside.
2018 Ertiga is shorter than Honda BRV, but has the same width and has more height. Wheelbase is longer in comparison to BRV. In terms of boot space, Honda BRV takes the leading position with 223 litres, followed by Marazzo at 190 litres and new Ertiga at 153 litres.
Engine & transmission – Mahindra Marazzo has the most powerful diesel engine among the three, followed by Honda BRV and Ertiga. Marazzo’s 1.5-litre diesel engine delivers 125 PS power and 300 Nm torque, which is more than Honda BRV’s 1498cc engine that delivers 100PS/200Nm and Ertiga’s 1.3-litre diesel engine that delivers 91PS/200Nm. All three MPVs have manual transmission for their diesel variants.
Talking about petrol variants, second generation Ertiga will be getting a new 1.5-litre petrol engine that will be more powerful than the existing 1.4-litre engine. It will be mated to 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Honda BR-V petrol variant is powered by a 1497cc engine that makes 119 PS power and 145 Nm torque. Engine is mated to 6-speed manual or CVT unit. Mahindra Marazzo currently does not offer petrol variant, but it is expected to be launched by 2020.
Mileage – Ertiga diesel will continue using the same 1.3-litre engine that gives a mileage of 24.52 kmpl. This is followed by Honda BRV diesel variant that gives 21.9 kmpl and Marazzo 17.3 kmpl. Current Ertiga petrol manual variant gives 17.5 kmpl whereas the petrol automatic delivers 17 kmpl. New Ertiga will offer better mileage, as it is based on the lightweight Heartect platform. Honda BR-V petrol manual gives 15.4 kmpl whereas petrol CVT gives 16 kmpl.
Price – All-new Ertiga, both petrol and diesel variants, will be costlier by around Rs 50k to 1 lakh depending on the variant. However, it will still be cheaper than Marazzo and Honda BRV. Diesel variants of all three MPVs are priced in the range of Rs 9-16 lakh.
Second generation Ertiga will be offering several new features, which will give it a definitive edge in the marketplace. It will be the most affordable car among the three and offer the best mileage for both petrol and diesel variants. Talking about rivals, Marazzo has a dominating stance and offers more space on the inside. Honda BR-V continues to delight customers with its advanced technology and all-round performance.
