Mercedes Benz has an all new B Class today at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. Receiving a complete styling makeover, the new B-Class is the third generation of the large hatch, which has been developed under the code name W247.
The new Mercedes-Benz B-Class gets increased dimensions. It measures 4,359mm in length, 1,786mm in width and 1,557mm in height while it sits on a wheelbase measuring 2,929mm. Exteriors boast of a new design language. It adopts a ‘predator face’ as seen on the A-Class offering a sharper frontal impact. It also receives shorter overhangs, multi bean headlamps, distinctive tail gate that is more sharply angles and displaying large tail lamps. It sits on new wheel sizes ranging from 16” to 19” and a lower roofline.
Interiors also get revamped with new front seats using technology called energizing seat kinetics. These seats can adjust to passenger’s most minute movements and offer ideal support in all conditions. Mercedes has added the brand’s latest MBUX – Mercedes Benz User Experience infotainment technology into the new B-Class.
MBUX is a digital assistant that uses artificial intelligence to learn driver’s behaviour. If the driver has a certain preference of music or makes regular phone calls, the MBUX system prompts the driver on these actions. The dashboard receives a pair of large infotainment screens offering information needed by the driver, controlling its infotainment features and offering climate control functions as well. Semi autonomous driving technology, as seen on the S-Class sedan makes its way into the new B-Class with a combination of cameras and radars to read the road and to offer traffic conditions upto 500 meters ahead.
Set to open for orders from December 2018, the Mercedes-Benz B-Class will get powered by a total of five engine options. The B180 and B200 will be powered by a 1.33 liter M282, 4 cylinder petrol engine offering 134 bhp power and 148 lb/ft torque and 161 bhp power and 184 lb/ft torque respectively.
