After months of testing and spy shots, today, Mercedes Benz took the drapes off their all new A Class sedan for the global market. To be first launched in the US and Europe, new A Class is a 2019 model, which will be launched later this year.
2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan will be offered either as a FWD or or 4MATIC AWD. It sits on a 2.4″ shorter wheelbase than the full grown A Class. In fact keeping with CLA-Class’ proportions, the cars is sized similarly.
Power comes from a 2L turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine to return max power of 188 hp and max torque of 221 pd-ft (300 Nm). This is lower than what the CLA Class returns – 208 hp and 258 d-ft (350 Nm).
Mated with a seven-speed dual-clutch AT, power is distributed to the front, or all four wheels with a MacPherson strut suspension in use. Depending on variant, wheels choices vary from 17” with torsion-beam rear axle, or 19” four-link independent rear suspension.
Mercedes-Benz A 220 and A 220 4MATIC will go on sale in US later in 2018, and could be available at a slightly lower price point than the CLA. More details about 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan will be available at the Paris Motor Show this year.
The first look reveals split five-spoke wheels. Standard offering and safety features include dual 7” TFT screens, standard LED headlights, LED taillights, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, forward collision warning, push-button start, Dynamic Select adjustable driving modes.
Active Lane Change Assist, adaptive cruise-control, Pedestrian and cyclist recognition, speed limit, and lane assist are part of the Driver Assistance package. Options include adaptive dampers, 10.3-inch screens, AMG Line, Night package, and Exterior Lighting package.
India launch is expected to take place early next year, as a CBU variant. Expect price tag to be in the range of Rs 25-30 lakhs. Here it will rival with the Audi A3 sedan.
