New Ford Endeavour was launched back in January 2016. Soon after the launch of new Endeavour, it was noticed that the sales of Fortuner had started declining. The reason, at first was believed to be the new Ford Endeavour.
For example, month of March 2016 witnessed the lowest ever monthly sales performance by the Toyota Fortuner but the brawny SUV managed to stay just ahead of the new Ford Endeavour. As expected, the downward trend continued in the subsequent month as well and this time, the Ford managed to claim the segment leadership.
This is the first time since its launch in 2008-09 the Fortuner failed to post segment leading sales figures. The premium ladder frame SUV from Toyota has been attracting customers with its strong road presence and off-road capabilities but the new Endeavour ticks all those boxes and even more.
Speaking in numbers, the Fortuner registered sales of 509 units last month as against the new Endeavour’s tally of 560 units. But the bigger reason behind decline in the sales of Toyota Fortuner was the fact, that the company was going to launch the new generation Fortuner in India.
With the new Toyota Fortuner now launched in India (it was launched on 7th Nov), sales of the car have already peaked to a record high. Yes, for the month of November 2016, sales of Toyota Fortuner stand at 1,924 units, as against Ford Endeavour’s 562 units.
The new Toyota Fortuner is based on the second gen IMV platform that also underpins the newly launched Innova Crysta. The 2.8L diesel and 2.7L petrol engines too are shared with the MPV.
