First showcased at the Auto Expo last month, the new VW T-ROC SUV has been launched today in India as a CBU
Volkswagen plans an onslaught of SUVs in India in the coming year. This started with the Tiguan All Space launch earlier this month. Today, they have launched yet another SUV, in the form of T-ROC. Prices start from Rs 19.99 lakhs, ex-sh. The Volkswagen T-Roc is a midsized SUV which will be imported into the country as a CBU – Completely Built Unit. It is positioned below the Tiguan and will boast of a sportier stance.

Built on the VW’s MQB platform, the new T-ROC SUV boasts of distinctive features with a dual slat front grille, slim headlamps positioned on its front fenders, lower positioned cornering lamps and DRLs which serve as indicators and switch to orange colour for turn signals.
The VW T-Roc will also get a distinctive trapezoidal shaped cooling duct and silver kick plate at the lower section of the bumper. Large wheel arches will enhance the sporty appeal of the T-Roc along with a well defined shoulder line, chrome accents spanning from the A Pillar over side of the roof to C Pillars and a two tone exterior colour scheme wherein the roof and A Pillars are in total contrast to the steel body of the compact SUV. To cater to Indian road conditions, ground clearance is to be increased.
In terms of dimensions, the Volkswagen T-Roc will measure 4,234mm in length, 1,819mm in width and 1,573mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2,603mm and offers a boot space of 445 liters. Cargo space can be increased to 1,290 liters by folding the rear seat.
For India, the Volkswagen T-Roc will be powered by a 1.5 liter turbocharged petrol engine offering 150 hp peak power mated to a 7 speed dual clutch DSG as standard. This entry level SUV will be a front wheel drive and will not sport Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. The European version of the SUV gets 3 powertrain options of 1.0L TSI, 1.5L TSI and 2.0L TSI.
It will be interesting to see how the T-ROC performs in the Indian market, considering that there are multiple SUV options now on offer for buyers in the segment. Some that are even priced lower than the T-ROC.
